What did they wear in the twenties?
The classic look that defines women’s fashion of the twenties was loose, straight, and slender dresses, with dropped waists. Shorter hemlines were representative of the sense of freedom that the decade brought to society. However, by day, ladies would actually dress more casually in cotton housedresses and handmade necklaces.
Meanwhile, whilst hair was worn long many women would sweep it up in a way that it appeared short – with curls to one side. Some women did however take the plunge to cut their hair into a short bob. Additionally, women would often wear hats atop these buns – which looked remarkable with their handmade jewellery!
In addition to those beaded necklaces, women wore long drop earrings that grazed their bare necks. Pearls, diamonds and other precious gems were worn with a passion.
